Stephen Grota
Stephen Grota has worked as an aircraft mechanic since the mid seventies servicing flight schools, airlines, and specialty shops. He was employed as General Manager for a 14 CFR part 145 repair station for 20 years providing contract maintenance to numerous regional air-carriers, flight schools, and corporate jets, as well as general aviation.
Stephen joined the FAA in 1996 as an Aviation Safety Inspector and shortly thereafter became a Principal Maintenance Inspector for 14 CFR part 135, 145, 141, 133, 137 and 121 operators. He was temporarily attached to the FAA National Flight Program Oversight Office as its only maintenance inspector traveling from Alaska to New Jersey performing safety evaluations. He was twice selected as an Airworthiness Technical Specialist at the New England Region. He has worked with the FAA Certification Standardization Evaluation Team to certificate a 14 CFR part 121 airline and to ensure it was ATOS compliant. He has been involved in many safety issues with the Aircraft Evaluation Group (AEG), the Aircraft Certification Offices (ACO), The Manufacturing District Offices (MIDO), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and our Office of Accident Investigation (AAI-100), as well as foreign entities.
Throughout his career he has given numerous seminars on a variety of safety related topics. He has contributed to the creation and writing of several Airworthiness Directives, Safety Alert Information Bulletins, Structural Inspection Documents, Type Certificate Amendments, Supplemental Type Certificate corrections and Field approvals to both aircraft and helicopters. Some of these were as a result of accident investigations, and some were from his proactive approach to Team Safety.
During a recent conversation Mr. Grota stated, "Becoming a FAASTeam Program Manager has given me an opportunity to employ my team-building skills to identify, act, and monitor solutions to ensure we have resolved the identified issues, and that we have achieved the desired result.
The Aviation Safety group of Massachusetts achievements are impressive, and I am truly looking forward to working with you and becoming part of the continuing effort to reduce the number of aircraft accidents. If you have any questions, suggestions, or if you would like to arrange a seminar, he would welcome a contact at: Stephen.Grota@faa.gov”
